Head Coach Martin writes: The “A” division of the County Championships as customary finished with the sprints and relays at Crystal Palace on the 24th and 25th of February.
Leander swimmers had a fantastic weekend, collecting 14 medals, achieving 49 top 8 finishes and many Personal Best times. On the way, 39 new club records were broken, some of them dating back to 2005. See the full results for this year’s championships.
In the individual events we collected 10 medals and achieved 33 top eight finishes. Medallists in individual events were:
- Gold: Kirstin x2, Saskia, Jordan
- Silver: Mia, Saskia, Kirstin
- Bronze: Saskia, Lily C, Cosmo
Our relay teams made a huge step forward this year. We won 4 medals and 16 teams were placed in top 8. 16 “A” teams placed better than last year, and 20 teams improved on their entry time. At these high adrenalin events it is hard to hold the nerves but Leander swimmers showed their skills, again avoiding any DQs this year. A great effort from all – one of very few clubs to achieve that.
- Silver: 12-13 Boys IM relay: Cosmo, Tom J, Jacob, Lachlan
- Silver: 15 & under Girls IM relay: Suzannah, Imogen, Kirstin, Lily C
- Bronze: 10-11 Girls IM relay: Issy, Ausrine, Jessica, Saskia
- Bronze: 15 & under Boys IM relay: Jake W, Jordan, Jack B, Ben
Congratulations to all swimmers for their achievements so far. Great mid-season results and for majority this was the most important meet of the season from individual and team perspective.
I would also like to thank ALL parents for your continuous support and for volunteering at these championships. Thanks goes to all coaches for their hard work and positive feedback to swimmers. There were many lessons to learn and as we made strides forward we see that our swimmers are getting better and faster. They are also becoming more ambitious and we are very happy to see that. This way we are building a successful One Team, One Dream Leander.
This tremendous effort over last 4 weekends placed us in top end of the table again this year. We collected 29 medals and came 8th overall with 316 points. Congratulations to our girls who came 3rd overall.
Further congratulations to Alderic who ranked 3rd among the 10 year old swimmers.
Best of luck to all B Division swimmers this weekend!
