Membership of both Platinum Squads are exclusively at the Coaching Team’s discretion based on the criteria below. Please note that a swimmer does not automatically secure a place in either Platinum Yellow or Platinum Blue by just achieving the age criteria or competition results. Both graduation to and continued membership of the Squads will depend on a swimmer satisfying the criteria below.
Swimmers are expected to follow the designated annual squad competition programme and enter events as agreed with their coach.
Swimmers must make themselves available for team events and relays if required.
14 + or turning 14 within the swim season.
Work Ethic and Attitude
A swimmer must demonstrate a consistently appropriate strong work ethic.
Commitment to the Training and Competition Programme
- Minimum Attendance 90% (of recommended hours – depending on age and distance/stroke speciality in case of Senior Swimmers)
Attendance records are continuously monitored to ensure that each swimmer is dedicating sufficient time to developing both the skill and the fitness levels required in the pool and the gym to succeed. The mandatory squad minimum hours for both pool and land training are set individually and based on age and the individual’s swimming background, taking into consideration the Long Term Athletic Development Plan.
- Efficient in all 4 strokes
- 10×100 FC on 1’30
- 5×200 IM on 3’30
- 400 FC Kick under 7′
- Regional Qualifying Time for a 100m distance and above
The membership of both Platinum squads will work on a three month probation period, where swimmers will be assessed against the criteria for each particular squad. Swimmers will be set individual programmes and have a constant dialogue with their coach. This is to ensure that swimmers are provided with the right training programme matching their ability and commitment.
Next training sessions
- Be on poolside, ready to swim fifteen minutes before the session starts and carry out dry land warm up and blood flow on poolside as directed by the coach.
- Bring the correct equipment (see kit list)
- Bring a full water bottle.
Illness or absence
Please use the form to inform your coach of any absence due to illness or other commitments. Please state your child’s name, squad and a brief reason for absence. If a fuller explanation is needed, arrange to speak to the coach before or after a session.
If a swimmer is late to a session, they should not enter the pool until told to by the coach, who will explain the warm-up and allocate a lane.
If a swimmer feels unwell during a session they should tell the coach straight away. They must not stay in the changing room as the coach must be aware of which swimmers are in the building.
Information is sent via the Squad rep – please ensure we have an up-to-date email address.
