82 Leander swimmers tool part in this mid-January meet – always one of the favourites on our competition calendar. The meet served as a last chance to qualify for the Surrey County Championships.
We came away with 5 new Surrey A qualifiers and lots of improved times. We now have 42 Surrey A qualifiers, 3 up on last year. Taken together with the B class events, we now have more than 100 swimmers attending the counties!
Our coaches were especially pleased to see 40 swimmers taking on the gruelling 400m events, together with the 13 who swam the even tougher 200m Fly – including Alderic from Bronze squad – only 9 years old! These events are an integral part of a swimmer’s development and even young swimmers can do them, and do them well. A few even swam in both the 200 and 100 fly, only 15 minutes apart – well done Alderic, Sasha, Maggie, Tess, Joseph, Jordan, Enerel and Kirstin.
- Some stats:
- 224 medals (82 Gold, 65 Silver and 77 Bronze)
- 457 PBs including first swims
- Alderic Leleu (9y) picked up 14 Gold medals and set 12 new club records
- Kirstin Harvie (14y) took 6 Gold and 1 Silver medals
- Overall 43 new club records were set
Well done to all swimmers, a big thank you to all our volunteer officials and also to our coaches. We had so many on poolside it felt like a home meet!
