Swimmers from all our squads took part, quickly forming a cohesive and supportive group on poolside, even though some were meeting each other for the first time.  Many of  Leander swimmers were at the Beckenham Open that weekend and so we were a relatively young side, with several swimmers swimming ‘up’ an age group.  Nevertheless our team rose to the challenge and all of our swimmers did brilliantly, despite the odd goggle malfunction!

We finished the evening a very creditable joint third.  Congratulations to all our swimmers on their performance and behaviour poolside.  A huge thanks must go to Dave and Caroline for coordinating and supporting the swimmers, Sue as judge and to Matthew and the older swimmers for all their encouragement and help poolside.

We can’t hold this event without volunteers so Alex Davis will be in touch shortly looking for helpers; don’t worry about what you can do – not all jobs are “official” and there’s lots to be done!

They all swam really well, with Connie reaching the final for the 50 free and missing out on a medal and a national time by less than a whisker.   Dom proved that he is regaining his fitness after a long period out through injury and last but by no means least Toby did us proud and won a Bronze medal in the 50 fly.

With the London Age Group Champs coming up and everyone hoping for PB’s, medals and national times, I think it is a good time to step back and remember what an amazing achievement it is to compete at the Regionals.  It requires focus and commitment over the whole year and we are proud of everyone who has competed and will be competing over the coming weeks.  They are a credit to the club, a great example to the younger swimmers and they sure do swim fast!

We would like to thank all the swimmers for giving their efforts in the pool and the parents for their continued support and last but not least a huge thank you to all the volunteers that helped run the gala so smoothly on the day.

The races were fast and furious with everyone in the right place at the right time – fantastic.  Halfway through the evening Leander were sitting in fourth place, very respectable for our first Relay Gala in over two years!   But none of the swimmers were going to settle for that.  Everyone entered into the spirit of the races and with some very nail biting finishes, swimmers were well and truly determined to improve our placing.  By the end of the evening Leander had pulled up to an amazing second place, only 16 points behind the winners!  An impressive finish for all the Leander swimmers who took part.

Congratulations must go to all the guys who swam and cheered their team with enthusiasm.  Our team exhibited exemplary behaviour and were a credit to the club.  A great big thank you to Caroline and Dave for organising this event and being in charge on poolside, abley assisted by Rose, Sue, Anne Marie and Ali as judges and last but no means least all those very loud parent supporters in the gallery!!

The Relays;  Leander fielded its largest team for a long while, which is a testament to the quality of swimmers coming through from academy.  All of the swimmers on the day were exemplary;  their behaviour was excellent, all were great ambassadors for the club. Each child gave 100%, which is all that any club or coach can ask for;  we were riddled with injury and illness but still managed to field some excellent teams, watched some extremely close finger tip finishes…. and to cap it all, a bronze medal in the Boys 12-13 Medley relay team – a superb swim against some incredibly tough opposition.
